Ava Jones
In July 2020, Ava Jones began suffering from debilitating headaches and a visible bump on the right side of her face appeared suddenly and without warning. Her parents, Kevin and Kym Jones, followed their instincts and pushed for answers to understand the cause of her symptoms.
Their questions were answered, but their worst fears were realized as Ava was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, an extremely rare and highly aggressive form of cancer that most often develops in the soft tissues of children and adolescents. There are less than 500 cases per year diagnosed within the United States. The diagnosis turned their world upside down, forcing them to rethink everything, to pivot and focus solely on beating cancer, something they never could have imagined dealing with.
Ava’s strength and courage are truly an inspiration. At just 8 years old, she is fighting for her life, undergoing intense chemotherapy and proton radiation therapy, and doing it all while never losing her incredible spirit. Ava has a big heart, a kind soul and is loved by everyone that meets her. Kevin and Kym are the hardest-working, most selfless, kind and loving people any of us could ever encounter. They are the people you need in your corner when times are tough.
Now it’s time for us to be in their corner. To help them fight and to give them some relief and peace of mind amidst the intense treatments and the unbearable emotions and anxiety. Ava still has a long and difficult road ahead of her, facing several more months of frontline treatment as well as six additional months of maintenance treatment.
Ava’s Army 5K will raise funds to directly support the Jones family. 100% of the proceeds will go directly toward building Ava her dream bedroom, a comfortable and inspirational space to help her continue to rest and recover, as well as provide assistance with the ongoing medical costs as a result of her intense treatment.
